March 11, My 1 year ampuversary!

Posted by: | March 10, 2010 | 15 Comments |

It was a year ago that the doctor in Elverta, (Sacramento) removed what was left of my right front leg. I had part of my leg removed in Taiwan but the folks at Homeward Bound finished the job. I don’t remember a whole lot about that day but I remember meeting some really special people, my foster mom and dad, Kathleen and Jim. I’ve talked about them before. They took me to their home in Auburn, Ca. and took really great care of me. They told the chauffeur and the maid I wasn’t any trouble at all. As a matter of fact, they took a picture of me on the couch wrapped up in my favorite blue blanket and my hot pink t-shirt sitting next to Kathleen. Mom and dad got that picture not to long ago. My, I was so cute! Dad’s eyes water when he looks at it.

I look really happy in the picture and why not, I got rid of my bum leg, got a terrific foster home and was starting down the road to rest of my life. I didn’t have cancer like so many of my tripawd friends do, but losing that leg was a pretty big deal and I would like all of you to celebrate with me! You know when I left that leg in doctors office, I left all the bad stuff that happened to me in Taiwan wrapped up in that leg. I hope they buried my leg  really, really deep, like, backhoe deep. It’s think it’s a good thing to bury bad memories.

I talked to everyone’s mom and dad’s and on Thursday, march 11th, 2010, all my tripawd friends will get an extra treat!  And to all of my friends that have crossed the bridge, I miss you… and tomorrow night, I’ll look up to the stars, wag my Farrah Fawcett tail and run like the wind with a big ‘ol grin on my face!

Shelby, the P.P.

PP – I can see why Dad’s eyes water when he looks at that beautiful picture. Makes my Mom’s eyes water too. You are so pretty in pink (just like we suggested for your new outfit by the way) and we’re so glad that you left all that bad stuff back in Taiwan. We can’t wait for the extra treats – what a celebration – one year ampuversary!!! Hooray!!!

    Woohoo Shelbeeeee!

Happy Hippy Hoppy 1 YEAR Ampuversary girlfriend! You know I am jealous of your Farrah Fawcett tail and that everpawdy just falls in love with you the minute they meet you and that you get to do therapy work……and Travis Ray has a crush on you……

But I just can’t hold any of that against you. Your blonde beauty and pawtite sweetness just overcome all bad thoughts I might have……and make me want to try harder to be just as sweet as you! I don’t think I will ever ever ever get there though!

Yay Shelby! Mum got me a new wubba AND a tartar buster for your ampuversary! Thank you for giving her the idea!
I don’t think our pawrents understand sometimes how fantastic and resilliant we are, and it’s so much easier for us to let go of the bad stuff than it is for them! I didn’t have cancer but I couldn’t use my leg anymore after the car accident.. and now that it’s gone my only question is “are we goin outside now?… now? how bout’ now? Ok now!”
    Keep getting stronger beautiful girl!

Happy Ampuversary, Shelby! Pink is definitely your color. Did the maid ever take you shopping for a new collar?
And thanks for the treats! My mom gave me a special one in your honor!
    Hugs,

Hi Shelby! It doesn’t seem like a year since that all happened. You were so easy to take care of, and you never complained. You were always smiling even then!! In case you didn’t know, you are our favorite foster of all 14!!! We miss you!
Congratulations on all the amazing things that you do and have accomplished!!! And congraulations to the maid and chauffeur for helping you be all you can be!!!
    Love, Kathy & Jim

Dear Shelby: So sorry we are a little late to the party, but we definitely want to toast your big one year ampuversary! You deserve your happy ending, Princess. We can tell just from your pictures you are a very special girl with a beautiful heart (and it’s good to know you are not completely perfect—-aka Steak Thief……).
And you bring so much happiness to others. One of my moms is a geriatric nurse practitioner and she says dogs like you really cheer her patients up! And the staff too! (I like to visit the nursing home and I do my best, but I get so excited to
see everyone I start acting like a young pup instead of a ten yr old! How do you do it, Shelby?).
    Here’s to many more Princess!
    Love, Romeo and family
